Minor technical release focused on adjusting default configurations.

Previous release notes:

Implemented a new side navigation menu for iPad along with a number of small improvements and bug fixes:

• Reduced app backup sizes by 10x.
• Updated widgets to fully support iOS 18's tint mode.
• Changed default skip durations in the podcast player to 15 and 30 seconds for rewind and fast forward respectively.
• Fixed a bug where the playback speed indicator was not updating correctly between videos.
• Fixed a video player crash that could occur when voice over was enabled.

We’ve redesigned the podcast player to provide a richer visual interface and the following additional playback controls:

• Adjustable playback speeds
• Configurable skip back/forward actions
• Sleep Timer
• Autoplay

Bug Fixes and Other Improvements

• Your device may occasionally remove downloads to free up space. We’ve improved how we handle this by providing clearer messaging when it happens and offering a direct way to redownload content.
• Optimized our internal image management to use less memory and data.
• Home now scrolls a lot smoother thanks to improvements in how we render video tiles.
• Improved the image caching system to prevent apps with limited memory from crashing (thanks to Chris for this crash report).
• Fixed an issue that could result in missing artwork within the lock screen player.

Internal image management is now optimized, using less bandwidth and less memory.

Fixed a legibility issue with gradients on certain rail types in dark mode.

We’ve made a few more visual enhancements to Home.

• A new style of rail has been added better showcase highlighted content.
• Large hero images at the top may now include additional information.
• Added a bit more... panache to placeholder elements that appear when new content is being loaded on Home.

Smaller release focused on UI polish, bug fixes, and general improvements:

• Attempted another fix to the vexing disappearing downloads issue. Please continue to let us know if you continue to sporadically lose downloads.
• Enhanced scrolling and overall performance of Home, especially on iPad.
• Improved the performance of the video player during scrubbing, fast forwarding, and similar actions.
• Fixed a bug that was preventing the display of thumbnail images when a notification was long-pressed.
• Corrected an issue that prevented proper updating of lesson progress.
• Added haptic feedback when selecting homepage chips.
• We now scroll to the top of the view when you tap tab bar icons.
• Added additional telemetry data for podcasts.
• Polished tab text styling within Library.

Welcome Home.

The main view–now called Home–has been redesigned to make it even easier to discover content you’ll enjoy. In addition to the featured content you’re used to seeing, Home is now where you can find additional pages of curated content grouped by category or interest such as News, Culture, Science, and Classes. We’ll continue to add more Home pages over time, so let us know what you’re interested in seeing more of.

Some other smaller changes in this release include:

• Settings has a new icon
• Library has a new icon
• Browse has been renamed Explore

And also, the team took this update as an opportunity rewrite the entire Featured/Home view in SwiftUI.

Improvements

• Downloaded content is now ordered by the date and time it was downloaded.
• Podcast player analytics have been added to help diagnose and solve podcast playback issues.
• Added an in-app notification system to communicate required app updates and minimum app and OS version requirements.
• Updated the description of the background audio setting to clarify that this setting only applies to videos and lessons. Podcast audio will always continue upon locking device.
• Updated and refreshed the app color palette.
